Current Status
Applied eXel is currently in its pilot phase, led by the UNESCO Chair on Strategic Foresight and Higher Education at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), with EURASHE serving as Project Manager. The pilot phase is being implemented with a selected group of applied higher education institutions and is now closed to new applicants.
The pilot cohort includes institutions from the United Arab Emirates, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, India, China (Hong Kong SAR), Poland, Latvia, Canada, Malaysia, and Belgium. These institutions form the founding Applied eXel network and are contributing to the validation and refinement of the framework.
Looking Ahead:

Applied higher education institutions with a strong applied mission are invited to express interest in applying for the 2027 Excellence Label. The forthcoming cycle will build on the outcomes of the pilot and will follow a structured process of self-assessment, peer review, and benchmarking aligned with the Applied eXel framework.
